April & May Update

We’ve saved you a place at the table.

Everyone is invited to bring a plate to celebrate Harmony Day

Harmony Day is a great chance to celebrate  the diversity of the Nambour community.  Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and is at the heart of who we are. It makes Nambour a great place to live and forms an integral part of our community identity.

This month’s community dinner will be held in celebration of Harmony Day. The Day aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect cultural and religious diversity and foster a sense of belonging for everyone.

Join your friends at the Nambour  Community Centre on Friday 7 April to share a meal and a community celebration. Everyone is welcome, so invite your friends and family members. Bring a plate of food. The dinner starts at 5.30pm.

Wow...What a way to lose weight

Starting the journey to a healthier you can be daunting but the Watching Our Weight (WOW) group offers a safe and supportive environment for those wanting to lead a healthy life.

The WOW group first started in 2012 at the Nambour Community Centre (NCC) with an aim to support and encourage people who want to keep their weight in check by weighing-in each week in the company of friendly members.

The group meets on a Wednesday morning from 8.30am for a cuppa and a catch-up, before the weigh-in at 9am.

Group coordinator Coleen said each member’s weight is recorded at the end of each month and there are rewards for those who achieve good results.

Coleen said each meeting includes interesting discussions about healthy meals that can be whipped up in the kitchen, guest speakers and other information the members may like to learn about.

“We have outings during the year for our club’s birthday, Christmas in July, fundraisers for the Biggest Morning Tea and our end-of-year lunch,” she said.

Membership is open to everyone and is $10 per year with a $4 meeting fee each week to cover costs. Members pay 50c if they put on weight.

For more information on WOW, phone 5441 2621. Meetings are held at Nambour Community Centre, 2 Shearer Street, Nambour.
