New Groups on Offer at Your Community Centre

Whether you’re looking to make new friends or learn a new skill, there are a host of new and refreshed groups and workshops on offer at Nambour Community Centre.
From cooking to gardening and community working groups, there is something for everyone at Nambour Community Centre (NCC). A new range of programs have joined the list of great services already on offer at the centre to better engage the entire community.
Some of the latest additions include the Thursday Cook-Up from 9.30am. Everyone is welcome to come along to cook together and eat together in  the NCC open area. The Beginners Guitar Group is held the first and third Tuesday of the month from 1pm and is already bustling with amateur musicians wanting to learn a new skill.
A Suicide Prevention Working Group has been launched at NCC encouraging the community to come together every second Tuesday from 9.30am to explore local approaches to suicide prevention in Nambour. For more information on any of these groups, contact the Centre on 5441 4724.

Multicultural Activities
Cultural Connections is a community development program for people from diverse cultural backgrounds.  The program can support migrants to meet people, improve skills, get connected in the local community & celebrate our diversity.  
Meet new people, make new friends and share your culture and stories. Everyone is welcome and morning tea is provided.

Practice your spoken English, meet new people & have fun

This program offers free help to migrants who are settling on the Sunshine Coast. We run varied workshops and provide information on employment, education, learning English, Centrelink, housing, health, legal and referrals to other services. We connect individuals with people and community groups.

Try Our Migrant Settlement Program

Are you new to the community? Looking for housing, health information and employment? NCC’s Migrant Settlement Program can help.
Led by Linda, NCC’s Migrant Settlement Program is a free program for permanent residents who have arrived in Australia in the last 5 years as refugees or humanitarian  entrants or family stream migrants.
The Migrant Settlement Program offers free, confidential advice, support and referrals on a range of services including housing, health, social security and Centrelink, education and English classes, employment, transport and relationship support. Community members can also seek information and support on family violence issues, legal concerns, access face-to-face case work and attend group information sessions.
The Migrant Settlement Program is run out of Nambour Community Centre, 2 Shearer Street, Nambour. Phone Linda Dennis on 5441 4660 for more information or drop in to see her Mondays 1-5pm. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8.30-5pm and from 12.30-4.30pm on Fridays.

These seven local women are one step closer to getting their driver’s licence after passing their written road rules test.Local Women are on the Move

Seven ladies recently passed the written road rules test as part of the Migrant Women Moving Forward program.
Pictured with them are Kerry Turner, Driving instructor from Murris on the Move , Uncle Norm and Melissa From Qld Dept of Transport and Main Roads, which generously funded the program.
Also thanks to Dean Stuart from Volkswagen Cricks who have allowed us to use a car so the ladies can get some driving practice.

Migrant Women Make a Splash

The first round of The Migrant Women Take the Plunge swimming and beach safety sessions have nearly finished!

Non Violent Communication for local community services and educators

Nambour Community Centre hosts practice groups for Non-Violent Communication and Restorative Circles.
Practitioners are holding an information session on the practical application of these tools at Nambour Community Centre from 2pm until 4pm on Tuesday 24 April.
Processes will be demonstrated using
role playing.
The session will appeal any community organisations and educators to support better interpersonal communication.

Backyard Produce

Perfect for budding gardeners and green thumbs, Backyard Produce is a great chance to learn more about growing your own food.
Join us for demonstrations, talks and community engagement on the first Monday of each month from 1pm.
Bring your cuttings, seeds and any produce to give, swap or share.
The next demonstration will be how to build a worm farm from polystyrene boxes.
Coffee and tea are available and everyone is welcome.

inclusive approach to dealing with conflict in which everybody can be heard and relationships restored.

Movie Night to Support Local Families

Starry Nights Nambour Outdoor Movies will screen family-favourite Shrek on Saturday 7 April at Quota Park to help raise funds for Thriving Families. The event is entry by donation and movie-goers can bring a rug and enjoy a movie with their loved ones.

The movie starts at 6.30pm and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy great night out while raising funds for a program that helps local families in need. Visit www.starrynights.com.au for more information.

A Place at the Table

We have saved you a place at the table for the next community dinner.

Join us on Friday 6 April for a night of fun and dining celebrating Australian and New Zealand fare.

Everyone is welcome to arrive from 6pm with dinner served at 6.30pm.

The next dinner will be held on Friday 4 May from 6pm with a focus on Asian cuisine.
