October & November Update

Welcome to the NCC Annual General Meeting


Come along and find out what your community centre can do for you.
 
Come along and meet the staff, volunteers and committee members and also find out all about the programs, services, and groups that are held at the centre. We hold regular group meetings, play groups and so much more.
 
Everyone is welcome to come along. The night will start with a shared dinner at 5.30pm before the official AGM starts. It always promises to be a fun night with lots of information
 
Memberships are now due so contact the office if you would like to sign-up as a member or renew your membership (Note: only financial members can vote at the AGM). RSVP by Wednesday 11 October by phoning 5441-4724 or emailing reception@nambourcc.org.

Families and Children
COMMUNITY PLAYGROUP
Come along & Heartfully, Playfully & Artfully have fun with your kids.

FERAL FRIDAYS @ QUOTA
Let the kids go feral in the park. Balls and a sausage sizzle provided.
When: 2nd Friday of the month
Time: 4-6pm.

YOUNG PARENT SOCIAL
This is a weekly collective playgroup for young parents aged between teen and 23 years. Spending time with our kids and each other. Tea, coffee & hot chocolate provided.
When: Every Monday

Multicultural Activities
CULTURAL CONNECTIONS
Cultural Connections is a community development program for people from diverse cultural backgrounds.  The program can support migrants to meet people, improve skills, get connected in the local community & celebrate our diversity.  
 
MAROOCHYDORE MULTICULTURAL GROUP CONVERSATIONS AND GET TOGETHER
When: Every Wednesday

SUNSHINE COAST MULTICULTURAL NETWORK MEETING
When: 1st Wednesday of each Month
Time: 1pm - 3:00pm

MIGRANT NETWORK GROUP
Come along to learn more about Australian work culture, make new friends and share information.
When: Every Monday  from 9 October (for 9 weeks)

MIGRANT SETTLEMENT PROGRAM
This program offers free help to migrants who are settling on the Sunshine Coast. We run varied workshops and provide information on employment, education, learning English, Centrelink, housing, health, legal and referrals to other services. We connect individuals with people and community groups.

Document Support worker now available

 
Do you need a hand with lengthy documents, to write your resume or fill out a job application? Our volunteer document support worker can help with a range of documents and the appointments are free.
 
Anyone is welcome to use the service. Appointments are available on Thursdays from 9-12pm at the Nambour Community Centre, 2 Shearer Street, Nambour. Phone reception on 5441 4724 to make an appointment.
 

The Young Women’s Collective


A creative space where creative women are supported by like-minded women
 
Thriving Families is proud to introduce a group where young women can get creative stuff done and happening in their lives. Whether it’s art, dance, clay, hair, nails, up-cycling or sewing, you’re more than welcome to bring your creative ideas.
 
The group is designed for high school students and young women in the Nambour community and all participants will be supported by other women.
 
The group will meet once a fortnight where everyone is encouraged to make, create and hang out with young women. Come as you are! This is a free event with a feed provided.

Everyone can take part in Social Inclusion Day!

 
Everyone is welcome to come along and take part in the annual Social Inclusion Day. On Thursday 30 November.
 
The family-friendly event will be held at Nambour’s Quota Park from 10am to 2pm.
 
There will be lots of interactive, inclusive and fun activities for everyone to enjoy, plus  a range of local community groups and services who will be there on the day.
 
Everyone is welcome to come along to this free, family-friendly event.

Also known as Compassionate Communication is a non judgemental communication style that has been proven to support people to communicate for better

RESTORATIVE CIRCLE PRACTICE GROUP
Created by Dominic Barter in the Favelas in Brazil in the 1990’s, with foundations in Non-Violent Communication. The Restorative Circle provides an inclusive approach to dealing with conflict in which everybody can be heard and relationships restored.

Join the Thriving Fam’s Crew

 
If kicking back over pizza, music, graffiti and hangs gets you amped and you’re aged between 12 and 18, come join the Thriving Fam’s Crew. We meet in the laneway at Nambour Community Centre (cnr James and Shearer Street, Nambour) on Mondays 14 and 28 August and Monday 11 September from 4-7pm.

Community lunch at Caloundra now a monthly event!

 
Everyone is welcome to bring a plate and share their culture with other community members at the monthly Community Lunch. The event will be held at the Caloundra Community Centre and Nambour Community Centre cultural development worker Shine will be there  to co-host the day.
 
The lunch will be held on the third Friday of every month from 12-2pm and everyone is welcome to come along. This is a great chance to travel to a new town, meet new people and share your culture through food. Bring a plate of your favourite food!

COMPUTER ASSISTANCE
The Nambour Community Centre has volunteer tutors who provide one on one assistance for those who would like to learn how to use a computer. The tutors can assist anyone from beginners to those who would like to build on their existing skills.
When: Thursdays 9-2:30pm

FREE COMPUTER ACCESS
The computer use is free of charge and can be booked for a maximum of 2 hours.
Computer room open 9am - 2.30pm, Mon-Friday

*Please note that the computer access program is designed to provide community members with access to a computer and is not inclusive of personal assistance.
